Ziyad was a commoner. He took work as a caravan guard young, and found he was especially good with a spear. Not especially fond of the work of a guardsman, Ziyad took those skills to the prize fights and gambling arenas of Izmatra. He was quite successful in those fights... but his life changed when he found the Armor of the Keeper.

The Armor of the Keeper is magical, semi-sentient, armor that grants a worthy bearer some power over snakes as well as combat magic. The Armor has a deep and old-fashioned sense of honor. Ziyad also believes in right and wrong, but has a somewhat more selfish perspective on his role in the struggle between the light and the dark.

Together, they've become a formiddable hero.
